You might have heard about Pidgin. It is an popular messenger for Ubuntu. The best part of this software is that it support multiple protocols. You can add your CQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu and Zephyr in it. Simply activate your current account and chat. It is free software you can download the same from the official site.
