Setting up a GMail account with Windows Mail

Setting up a GMail account with Windows Mail
I'm trying to set up Windows Mail to work with my Google Mail account but I'm having problems.

I have modified the incoming/outgoing servers and changed the port numbers to what google mail recommends, and I've also changed the POP settings on my Google mail account to what they recommend. But every time I click 'send and recieve' in Windows Mail it displays an error message saying it can't connect. Why can't I get it to work?

Help greatly appreciated.

Re: Setting up a GMail account with Windows Mail
Before you can use your GMail account with Windows Mail, you have to make a new email account using your GMail settings. When you’ve done that, follow the instructions below:
Go to the “Tools” menu by pressing alt + t, and press down arrow until you reach the “Accounts” menu item. Press enter to open the “Accounts” dialogue box.

You are now in the accounts list view, so use the arrow keys to find the account you’ve just made.

When you’ve found it, press tab until you reach the “Properties” button, and press space to open the “Properties” dialogue box for the account.

You are now in the “General” properties page, which is the first page of properties for your account. We don’t have to change anything here, so press ctrl + tab until you reach the “Servers” page.

Now press tab until you find the “My server requires authentication” checkbox, and press space to check it.

Next press ctrl + tab until you reach the “Advanced” properties page.

The first item here is an edit box for the outgoing mail server’s port number. Delete the contents of this edit box, and enter the number 465.

Now press tab once to move to the “This server requires a secure connection” check box, and make sure that it is checked.

Press tab once to move to the “Incoming mail” edit box. Again, delete the contents of this edit box, and enter the number 995.

Press tab once to move to the “This server requires a secure connection” check box, and make sure that it is checked.

Now press tab until you reach the “Ok” button, and press space to save the changes.

You are now back in the “Internet accounts” dialogue box, so press escape to close it.
Your GMail account should now work with [1].
