How to block URL Shortening sites?

How to block URL Shortening sites? Help me please? Can a get a help regarding blocking the url shortening sites? Does anyone have a good way to block a massive amount of these url shortening sites? I've added 10+ to my censored list but I am hoping to find an easier solution. These sites are a plaque and people are getting phished or even brought to sites that my users don't want to go to. So, anyone with any help please come up? Reply With Quote #2 Old 13-07-2011 Caiden Caiden is offline Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Posts: 704 Re: How to block URL Shortening sites? Ok so Url shortening sites work like any other link to the website, there is no way to have an automated system to detect without a list, and yet the new can be added easily, so the list quickly out of date. Instead of a difficult technical restriction that may or may not be effective, we must add that in their rules if not already exist and bring the hammer in his moderator to get to enforce it. If the problem is more with new users, then preventing them from publishing outside the moderation queue from office early or prevent them from publishing the URLs for their first jobs. I have not got a solution for this, but I have some suggestions I'd like to share about this and that is, short URL hides the destination address, and as a result can be used to redirect to an unexpected place. Examples are Rickrolling, redirecting download sites, or affiliate websites. Unexpectedly short URLs can also redirect a user to rip pages and pages containing malware or XSS attacks that use the redirect to avoid blacklisting of URLs. TinyURL try to deactivate the spam related links redirection. ZoneAlarm, however, has warned its users "may be unsafe TinyURL This website has been known to distribute spyware .." TinyURL counteract this problem by offering an option to preview a link before using a shorter URL. This capability is installed in the browser through the TinyURL website, however, and requires the use of cookies. Hopefully it gets you somewhere around your solution. I don’t think that this is a good idea actually to ban this and anyways well I would like to say that as far as I don’t know much about your version of phpBB, cannot be an option to do now. I'm pretty sure you can block users by IP in the new versions. Check your records and if not offer the information, you need a script on the page that records the name of intellectual property and registration of your database. PhpBB can already do this; it might pay to dig through their support forums before adding a dash of your account. Preferably a hard technical limitation that may or may not be powerful, you require to add it in your rules and bring the hammer down on your moderators to get them to enforce it. If the problem exists more with the new users, then prevent them from posting off the moderation queue for their first few posts, or prevent them from posting urls for their first few posts.
